Age Concern Isle of Man has joined forces with the Department of Local Government and the Environment to help households reduce their energy costs and carbon emissions. The charity has appointed an Energy Doctor to offer practical advice on energy use to consumers in a move to help raise energy conservation awareness, reduce fuel bills and increase comfort levels in the home.

Funded by the Isle of Man Government’s Energy Initiatives Fund and delivered by Age Concern, the Energy Doctor service, which includes installation of a number of energy-saving devices, will be provided free of charge. Energy Doctor consultations will be arranged through Age Concern, with referrals from agencies across the voluntary sector and from the DHSS. A typical visit will include an energy rating assessment and advice given on government grants available for installing energy-saving measures such as cavity and loft insulation. In addition, free energy-saving packs are available, containing energy-efficient light bulbs, draught-proofing material, hot water cylinder jackets, reflective backing for radiators and cistern water savers.
